? yeah ?

It should be mandatory for ugly people to undergo surgery
Should society force ugly people to surgically change their outsides? Is their ugliness something that affects us all and is not to be accepted? To answer these questions we have to decide what “ugly” really is.

What are the qualifications for being a beauty? For women it is long legs, a big bosom, an athletic body and well groomed hair, preferably blond. For men it is abs, washboard stomach, length and the athletic body. But, beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder and everyone has a different opinion about what is truly beautiful. The word ugly is a consequence of the entire beauty industry. Everywhere, everyday, we are surrounded by the images of models, actors and artist. You take one look at these gorgeous people and it takes only a second to realize that you will never look like them. What we do not realize is that they have hordes of assistants and hairdressers, ready with designer clothes and makeup, at their beck and call. They are not that good-looking when they wake up in the morning.

So, should it be mandatory for ugly people to undergo surgery? On one hand it is an absurd thought and incredibly offensive and on the other hand, perhaps they would be happier? You know they say money cannot buy happiness, but that is not entirely true. Lots of people would jump at the possibility of being wonderfully good-looking, simply because we connect beauty with happiness.  And it is true that we are treated differently because of our looks. It happens all the time: the skinny woman in you workplace gets a promotion even though she hardly does anything, the cute girl in you school has an amazing boyfriend in spite of the fact that she is not half as sweet as you are. Can you really blame someone for wanting to be handsome when it seems that they are the ones who get what they want?

But if we really would force people who are what we call “ugly” to do surgery to become what we call “beautiful”, who would make the decision about who would qualify to this mandatory surgery? Since our taste is as different as we are it would probably be impossible.

In a perfect world we would accept each other just the way we are and realize that every rose has its thorn.

nej, nu lovar jag att inte lägg upp något mer förrens imorgonkväll! cross my heart and hope to die!
smell ya, shouldn't have to tell ya!
